Quinta da Lua

Located within just a short drive away from Tavira’s city centre, Quinta da Lua is truly heaven on earth. This delightful bed & breakfast is run by Miguel Martins, an entrepreneurial traveller who followed his lifelong dreams and opened this comfortable and beautifully renewed tourist lodging after a trip to Tavira.

Quinta da Lua rests peacefully amongst orange trees, bougainvillea, lavender, and other lusty shrubbery, which makes the perfect setting for a well-spent holiday amidst nature and away from Algarve’s crowds. The staff is welcoming, kind, and always ready to promptly offer you the best service there is and make you feel relaxed and at ease.

As you enter Quinta da Lua, the bucolic décor and interior details will let you know you are in for a treat, not long before you discover the six double rooms and two suites, each of them painted in distinct colours as a way of giving each guest a unique experience, and tastefully decorated.

They are featured with air-conditioning, safe-deposit box, central heating, and private bathroom or shower room with hairdryer. Also, there are always fresh flowers picked from the garden in every room, every day. Prices range between € 169 and € 225 per double room and over, and per night, depending on the season.

Although the suites differ from the other rooms in size and in some of the amenities—only suites are presented with TV, but you can always ask for one at the desk—you will surely find a nice veranda or terrace in which you can enjoy the view overlooking the lovely garden and outdoor saltwater swimming pool while you have breakfast or listen to some music in a complementary CD player.

When it comes to delightful meals, Quinta da Lua knows how and what to do. Breakfast plays an important role in the lives of both the guests and the staff, who ensure everyone is having a great time during the only meal served on a daily basis and savouring every little piece of heaven that comes to the table. Homemade cakes and preserves, along with a selection of bread, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, muesli, and freshly-made orange juice from the neighbouring orange groves make up for a beautifully set up breakfast table. Enjoy it inside or outside in the frontal wooden terrace, if the weather’s inviting.

Although you might want to explore the available restaurants in Tavira or other Algarve’s surroundings, we suggest you try having dinner at Quinta da Lua at least once, if the opportunity arises, to get to know the amazing dishes served to the guests by the careful and exquisite hands of Miguel, who, besides being the owner, is also the chef. On occasion, Miguel is more than happy to cook delightful dishes from Portugal, with the infrequent fusion cuisine details inspired by his traveller background. Make sure you ask the staff if dinners are available if you want to try Miguel’s cooking. Nevertheless, feel free to follow restaurant suggestions from Miguel in Tavira, which will often be tasteful and fit every budget.

Quinta da Lua makes the perfect base from which to explore the surroundings and discover Tavira’s natural and historical charms. From here, you can hire a bicycle and set off into the wilderness or see the sights at the historical centre of picturesque Tavira, the beaches of Cacela Velha and Cabanas Islands, and the beautiful Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, amongst many other superb natural treasures.

At night, feel free to help yourself to drinks from the outdoor bar and, if you are lucky and the full moon is out, you will surely find out where Quinta da Lua took its name from.
