GSpot Gastronomia

Despite its questionable name, Restaurant GSpot Gastronomia is hailed by many as the best place to eat in Sintra, Portugal. The restaurant is the result of a joint venture between Portuguese chefs Joao Sá and André Simões and award-winning Sommerlier Manuel Moreira. The team were responsible for the highly popular 100 Ways in nearby Cascais on the Estoril coast and designed Restaurant GSpot Gastronomia with the same creativity and flair in mind.

Sintra - GSpot RestaurantThe restaurant is a smaller-scale alternative, with seating for just 20 to 30 diners, but the beauty is that this inimitable team have also managed to reduce the prices to match, without skimping on quality.

The décor reflects the warm, earthy colours of the best of Sintra architecture, bringing the outside into this welcoming space and successfully merging the best of gastronomy with the best in history and architectural heritage.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, offering a three-course set meal at lunchtime and an a la carte menu in the evening – or the highly recommended five-course tasting menu with matched wines if you want to push the gastronomic boat out. Lunch really is incredibly good value at just €13 per head with wine.

The excellent value is obtained by limiting the number of options to just two for each course, but unless you are a vegan or have special dietary requirements, this certainly should not set you back.

The menu changes frequently but certain favourites make regular appearances, such as the tomato soup, salt cod and delicious roast chicken. Home made banana cake and rice pudding are favourites for dessert assuming you have room – and if you don’t you will find your bill reduced to just €10 accordingly.

For a trip further into the culinary pleasure dome, head to Restaurant GSpot Gastronomia after dark for the five-course tasting menu and create some lasting memories of your trip to Sintra, Portugal.

For just €27 you can enjoy five delicious courses with matched wines, including dishes such as mouth-watering Ink Risotto with monkfish, Shellfish soup with lemon purée and white asparagus, Shark with Alentejo bread and spinach or lamb ribs with wild mushroom and smoked potato and a range of desserts prepared with a tender touch.

This is a popular spot so book in advance or be prepared to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
