Brac Restaurant

The Brac Restaurant is a real destination for diners in Braga, Portugal. Located adjacent to some of the oldest ruins in the city, it brings together the ancient and the contemporary to superb effect. It is generally accepted to be one of the smartest restaurants in the city, offering food of exceptional quality in one of the most unique surroundings imaginable.

Brac Restaurant is a feat of architectural and interior design excellence. Juxtaposed against the ancient walls can be found sleek lines, a feast of lighting effects and a range of textures and colours that are vibrant enough to draw your attention, yet understated enough not to overshadow the charms of the old-fashioned stonework.

Wood, glass and steelwork form the framework of the restaurant’s interior, leading back to the piece de resistance — apart from the food that is —, the ancient Roman houses that were excavated at the back of the restaurant, a true testimony to the fact that Braga is indeed the oldest city in Portugal, with a history and culture that dates back well over two thousands years.

There is a large amount of modern artwork on display throughout the restaurant, making it a destination in its own right to admire the talents of Braga’s up-and-coming artists.

Like the décor, the menu at Brac Restaurant is a fusion of old and new, of Portugal and the rest of modern Europe and of textures and flavours that at once tease and sate the palate. Whether you are in search of a light snack or a push-the-boat-out dinner, Brac Restaurant is a number one choice.

The kitchen is open from 5.30pm to 1am daily, catering for couples, families, business people and groups, or you can simply choose to find a comfortable seat at the bar and relax with a cocktail, a glass of wine or a coffee to the sounds of jazz music.

Favourites on the menu include octopus Carpaccio, shrimp skewers, salmon pasta, a delicious Portuguese speciality called “caldo” (or soup) and a tasty omelette featuring local eggs and asparagus.
Many diners opt for a range of smaller “taster” dishes rather than a traditional starter and main, in order to sample as many of the delights on offer as possible at Brac Restaurant.

Expect to spend around 55 euros for a three-course meal with coffee and wine and you certainly won’t be disappointed. Major credit cards accepted.
