Quinta da Anunciada Velha

Quinta da Anunciada Velha is a unique property on the borders of the city of Tomar in the Ribatejo region of Portugal. It dates back to the 12th Century and has been inhabited since then at various times by Mozarabic and Knight Templars, noblemen and capuchin monks.

The building has been tastefully renovated in rustic style with delightful touches to its décor that pay homage to its exotic past. It consists of two guest rooms and one suite within the house itself and two further rooms in an adjacent building complete with terraces with views out over the rolling hills. One of these is also fitted with a kitchenette, making it ideal for a couple with a baby or guests looking for added comfort. There are two further cottages each sleeping four to five guests complete with two bedrooms, bathroom, living room, open fire, kitchen facilities and private sun terrace.

Guests stay on a bed and breakfast basis and a full continental breakfast is served every morning to set them up for a day of city sightseeing, mountain adventuring or relaxing around the pool. The hotel pool is a good size and well maintained and there are sun loungers and shaded areas offering refuge from the midday sun. The gardens are extensive and offer plenty of room for guests to roam amongst the vines and greenery and there are further walking trails directly outside the hotel grounds.

Quinta da Anunciada Velha is very welcoming and is a popular location for banqueting and special events. It serves good food in a lovely courtyard setting and organizes many concerts and recitals throughout the year.

Tomar itself is just three kilometres away, making the hotel a good choice for those wishing to explore its UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is also ideally positioned to make the most of what the Ribatejo region has to offer as Santarém, Golegã, Castelo de Bode and Constância are all within easy reach. The hotel staff are helpful and are a great source of information for guests wanting directions for sightseeing or to book hiking, watersports or equestrian activities. They are also happy to recommend restaurants for evening dining in Tomar,

All in all Quinta da Anunciada Velha is a great option for guests keen to explore the sights of Tomar and the surrounding region while staying in a rural setting and enjoying a taste of Portugal’s historic past.
